3 more songs

Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying - Belle and Sebastian
"Play me a song to set me free /Nobody writes them like they used to / So it may as well be me." If You're Feeling Sinister is one of my favorite albums ever. It's difficult to pick just one song, and this one definitely isn't the best. But, yeah.

Summer - Modest Mouse
"Just the smell on the summer can make me fall in love." An ode to summer! Summer may officially begin June 21st but baseball has been going on for a month or so now, and it's warm outside. So, calender be damned!

Kanske Är Jag Kär I Dig - Jens Lekman
"The best way to touch your heart is to make an ass of myself." Jens Lekman is like the Swedish version of Brian Wilson. This song is all kinds of genres mixed together. It's pretty groovy. Here is an acoustic version.

3 songs

I feel like recommending 3 songs from stuff I am listening to lately.

Jack Killed Mom, Jenny Lewis
"This song is about murder" sums it up. I just recently discovered Jenny Lewis (and her main band, Rilo Kiley) and love it. She's got this kind of alt-country vibe. Her album Acid Tongue has been on heavy rotation for me the last few days.

Slow Show, The National
You don't often hear baritone voices in rock music. The National's singer Matt Berninger has the most distinctive and recognizable voice around. I found an acoustic version of Slow Show on youtube and it might even be better than the album cut.

Unfair, Pavement
"We've got the hills of Beverly / let's burn the hills of Beverly!" This song just fucking rocks. Turn it all the way up. Between this song and Two States I'm thinking Pavement maybe doesn't like Southern California. Just a hunch.

Optical illusion

Which direction is the lady spinning? Clockwise or counter-clockwise? The answer is both! See if you can picture her moving in both directions. If you are having trouble try looking at just the legs and you should be able to shift it in your brain. Pretty cool, huh?

She's a hottie too. That helps.

Picks!

I link you to something useful:

Grooveshark is a site where you can stream music (like Pandora) for free. Anything you want to listen to is available right on demand. You can create playlists and get recommendations based on what you like. The features are not as good as Pandora but you can pick what you feel like hearing and play the tracks repeatedly if you desire.

Academic Earth
offers classes and lectures from some of the most prestigious schools in the world, for free. There's also Open Yale courses, UCLA, Stanford, and others. Hundreds of courses are available and there is a wide variety of topics. Some of my favorites are Justice, Death, and Science, Magic, & Religion. All highly recommended.

It is about nothing at all.
